A middle-aged Saanich man arrested Wednesday morning could face charges of voyeurism and assaulting a police officer.

The man was spotted by police at 2:40 a.m., July 15, cycling in the Gordon Head area without a helmet. After the officer stopped the cyclist, a struggle ensued and the man escaped. Police later tracked the suspect to his Saanich home. A search turned up a video camera inside a backpack and, after applying for a search warrant, police viewed what had been recorded by the camera.

Saanich police are recommending charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and two counts of voyeurism.

The man, who was first spotted in the 1600-block of Prairie St., is being held in custody and will appear in provincial court Friday (July 17).
