If it sounds like a gunshot and looks like a gunshot, it isn't necessarily a gunshot.
Saanich police were called out to the 800-block of Short St. on Sunday morning after a report of a loud bang and bright flash. On arrival, officers were told by several witnesses that the noise seemed to have been made by a firearm.
Thinking about the safety of the residents, police closed off Oak Street, between Saanich Road and Cloverdale Avenue, and evacuated several apartments.
Further investigation determined that no firearm was involved and that the loud bang and flash of light came from a blown hydro transformer.
