VISA is hosting a few weekend classes for budding artists

The Vancouver Island School of Art is hosting some fall weekend workshops for those looking to delve into their creative side.

The first one is called Gilded Miniature which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants in this workshop create their own “small wonder” a gilded miniature egg-tempera painting and will learn basic gilding techniques used in applying gold and silver leaf.

The instructor is for this class is Jan Gates.

There’s also Printmaking: Chine en Collé on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Students will receive a comprehensive overview of intaglio print-making and are given the opportunity to work one-on-one with a professional print technician.

There is a five student limit for this class, with technician Susy Raxlen.

Finally there is Experimental Papermaking, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants will be shown the many ways that paper can be used to create art, and the instructor is Lesley Clarke.

The VISA is also home to the Slide Room Gallery which features local and international artists.
