St. Luke’s Players tackle The Heiress

The St. Luke’s Players open their 60th season on stage Oct. 15 with a production of The Heiress at St. Luke’s Church Hall.

Based on the iconic novella Washington Square, the local adaptation of the play is being directed by local director Rita Humphreys.

Originally written for the stage by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, The Heiress had a successful run on Broadway in the late 1940s and was later adapted into a critically acclaimed movie.

The film version saw Olivia de Havilland win an Academy Award for her portrayal of Catherine Sloper, a shy woman dealing with a detached and hateful father.

Based on a real-life story, the play depicts genteel New York society in the 1850’s.

The local adaptation stars Mitch Barnes, Sarah Carson and Osiris Malkovitch.

The play runs Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 15-18, and Oct. 22-25 at St. Luke’s Hall is at 3821 Cedar Hill X Rd.

Tickets are available at Ivy’s Bookshop in the Oak Bay Village, Petals Plus at 3749 Shelbourne St. or at the door.
