No fall is complete without a trip to the pumpkin patch or a hay ride.
Here's a look at a few Saanich farms that are opening their doors to visitors to celebrate the autumn harvest.
Galey Farms: Pumpkinfest
Galey's six acre corn maze hides winding paths and exciting surprises. (Climbable trellises are available to help you keep your bearings.) There's a Ghost Town and Haunted Mansion, too, part of a Galey's full experience. Pumpkinfest runs Oct. 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Hayride is free.
Oldfield Orchards and Bakery: Octoberfest
Oldfield Orchards and Bakery's Octoberfest runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18 and Oct. 24-25.
Hayrides, haunted houses, corn maze and a cedar labyrinth are just some of the activities. There's also a tractor display, kids stage, vists from Tickles the clown at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., and games, such as pumpkin ring toss and pumpkin lawn bowling.
Haliburton Community Organic Farm: Trick your trash
Haliburton wants you to "trick your trash into being a treat for your garden."
The community farm is offering an afternoon that teaches the basics of composting while entertaining kids with crafts, pumpkin carving and farm tours.
Fresh farm produce will be available at the farm stand as will all the basics needed to start a home compost system.
Pre-registration required for composting workshop and Kids’ Krafts. To register contact the Greater Victoria Compost Education Centre at 250-386-9676 or info@compost.bc.ca .
Saturday, Oct. 31: 1 to 4 p.m., 741 Haliburton Rd., by donation (suggested $10 per family).
Le Coteau Farms
Le Coteau Farms is still harvesting produce but, unlike in past years, won't be running a Pumpkin Fest this fall.
