The federal government has awarded a $47.3 million contract to Stuart Olson Constructors Inc. to modernize the Fleet Maintenance Facility at the Esquimalt Dockyard.
The contract will create 255 jobs and is the fourth of five phases to consolidate and modernize the department of national defense ship maintenance facilities at CFB Esquimalt.
The contract includes office and cafeteria renovations, accommodation of a new wastewater treatment plant and the demolition of five buildings.
The base is home to Canada’s Pacific Fleet and contributes about $650 million annually to the local economy.
