Vikes women get help from bench

Second year guard Rochele Thoutenhoofd came off the bench in star fashion for the University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team on Saturday.

Scoring 13 points, Thoutenhoof helped her squad to a 65-48 win over the Trinity Western Spartans.

The Vikes have won three straight to move into second place.

Second half drought gives Spartans split

A second half scoring drought by the University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team led to a split in their two-game, weekend series with the Trinity Western Spartans at McKinnon Gym.

The Spartans capitalized with a 66-51 win when the Vikes managed just four points in the third quarter. Friday night the Vikes came out on top 68-61.

Chargers men slip to Kwantlen Eagles

On the road Friday and Saturday the Camosun Chargers fell to the Kwantlen Polytechnic Eagles in men’s basketball.

The Eagles dispatched the Chargers 84-74 and 80-66, leaving Camosun reeling with a 1-5 record.

Undefeated women take Eagles to task

Camosun Chargers women’s basketball team controlled the Kwantlen Polytechnic Eagles on the weekend. Friday the Chargers outscored the Eagles 70-42, then 69-48 on Saturday.

The Chargers women are now 6-0 atop the B.C. Colleges Athletics Association basketball standings.

An example of team depth, the Chargers went into the weekend without a single player among the top-10 league leaders for points and rebounds per game.
