Grizzlies split home-and-home with Clippers

The fact the Victoria Grizzlies are riding a nine game point streak made their 4-3 overtime loss to the Nanaimo Clippers at Bear Mountain Arena on Saturday easier to swallow.

“I think the biggest thing is this (OT loss) will give the (Grizzlies) something to work on this week as we go ahead into another tough battle against (Nanaimo),” said Grizzlies head coach Geoff Courtnall.

Victoria are now 19-7-3, six points up on the Clippers in the B.C. Hockey League’s Island division.

One night earlier in Nanaimo it was the Grizz who came out on top with a 4-3 regulation win at Frank Crane Arena.

The home-and-home series goes one more time, Friday night in Nanaimo and then back in Victoria again Saturday night, part of four straight games between the two teams.

“I think it makes for a competitive series,” said Courtnall. “It makes us play at a higher level against them. Nanaimo are a very disciplined, hard working team and you have to be smart against them.”
