Parkland soccer team captures AA title

The 2009 Parkland Athletics season is off to a great start. The Sr. Boys soccer team is setting the tone for the year with seven wins and only one loss for a total of 21 points.  Finishing first in the AA league, Parkland has scored a total of 20 goals while only being scored on four times.  Shane Gallagher has recorded seven shutouts so far this season. The first-place Panthers, have earned a berth into the semifinals of the Colonist Cup at the University of Victoria on Nov. 3. 

The Parkland Sr. Boys soccer team will play the winner of Oak Bay (AAA #4) and Reynolds (AAA #2). The winner of this semifinals match heads to the finals at Bear Mountain on Thursday, Nov. 5. Parkland is also excited to be a part of the lower Island championships to be held at St. Michaels University on Nov. 12 and 13. 

The top four teams from the Island will be heading over to Burnaby to represent the Island at the AA Provincials Championships. 

Parkland Sr. Boys team has an excellent chance in being one of the top four. This year’s team has huge potential and has its sights on making provincials. This year’s team includes Shane Gallagher, Peterson Perrin, Jesse Smart, Nicolai Lerch, Pascal Dawson Rhys Jones, Kyle Forbes, Paul Foehl, Callum Hunter, Brady Neil, Rhys Hunter, Jason Hawkings, Logon Gibson, Steffen Broeckelmann, Walter Alexander, Antony Rogers, Mike Fazzani, Luke Neville-Rutherford, and Robin Phura.

Head coach Bryan Sutton has been with this team for four years and is proud of how they play. This team deserves to win as they play strong and have the desire to win and learn. We have many talented players which make the coaching part easier and supportive parents who have cheered for four years, driven to many games and always provide supportive words to encourage the players to hold their heads high. The dedication from parents, players and coaches are paying off for this team.
