Rep team offers spirit

Not sure what to get the hockey fan in your life for Christmas? The Peninsula Eagles Bantam A team is selling the Spirit of Hockey Calendars as a fundraiser.

The money raised is to go toward expenses such as ice rental, tournament fees and their Christmas tournament they are hosting (Dec 26 to 29 at Panorama), but it’s more than that. The teens are also doing it as a community fundraiser, with 10 per cent of calendar sales going toward a local charity selected by the kids.

The players recognize the financial contribution of parents and of community sponsors in order for them to participate in a sport they love. They also recognize the challenging times for many groups trying to raise funds and wanted to share some of what they hope to raise with another organization. Parents and coaches of the team feel this is an opportunity for the players to give back, not only by helping raise funds toward team costs but giving a little back to the community in which they play in.

Support the local Bantam rep hockey team by purchasing a Spirit of Hockey Calendar for $20. The Bantam A team will be out selling the calendars at Thrifty Foods in Sidney and Saanichton and at the Brentwood Bay Liquor store from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 29.

The calendars make wonderful gifts for Christmas, friends, family or for any hockey fan and the funds are going toward more than just hockey.

Though they haven’t decided on a local charity to support, the players are considering the Sidney Lions Food Bank, PMHA Family Assistance Program, an the local Boys and Girls Club.
