Keep sprawl in check

Citizens in municipalities everywhere are fighting to keep urban sprawl in check, but some councils are working against them.

In Central Saanich, as a strategy to avoid the contentious issue of the Senanus pipeline to huge waterfront homes, our council is entertaining a motion which would open up urban sprawl to the whole northwest quadrant, the Mount Newton area bordering North Saanich.

With the Senanus issue in court and Central Saanich opposing citizens (using our tax dollars), we are now facing a pipeline proposal which goes up the mountain all the way to West Saanich/Alec Road, conveniently linking business interests such as Vantreight’s subdivision and others who would love the zoning to change.

From the frying pan into the fire, council is going to split the whole community on this one!
