Local food bank the loser in food fight

Regarding the Great Canadian Food Fight between Regina and Victoria, unfortunately, the whole story was not told.

The city of Regina and the Mustard Seed food bank both won! Any loss experienced was by the Sidney Lions Food Bank, and the Goldstream Food Bank, both who experienced food donations and cash donations being inadvertently directed to the Mustard Seed.

Although we encourage donations to the Mustard Seed, I feel it important that the people of the Peninsula realize that any persons residing north of Royal Oak that require the services of a food bank are serviced exclusively by the Sidney Lions Food Bank, and persons of the western communities are likewise served by the Goldstream Food Bank.

In these difficult times, all food banks are stressed beyond the limit, and are in serious need of both food and cash donations. I compliment the Mustard Seed Food Bank on their excellent promotion and trust that this event has addressed their immediate need to service their clients into the Christmas season.

I would remind all persons and businesses on the Saanich Peninsula, that as a charitable organization, we are able to issue charitable donation receipts for cash donations and look forward to your continued support.

Lion Don McIvor,

President Sidney Lions Food Bank
