Dog walker assaulted
Central Saanich Police are in search of tips after a woman reported being assaulted while walking in Gowlland Tod Park. The woman told police she leashed her two small dogs when she saw a man with three larger dogs, off leash, approaching. The dogs ran up to her and barked. The man, described as young and wearing a white shirt, white pants and white ball cap approached and spoke to her, police said, then hit her across the side of the head, knocking off her ball cap. A witness followed the man and saw him leave in an older black Mercedes sedan.
Anyone with information about this incident (file number 3908) should call Cpl. Easson at 250-652-4441.
400-pound theft
A massive skate park ramp is missing from Centennial Park. A public works worker noticed the item missing the morning of Nov. 2; it was last seen in the park Oct. 28. Police say a vehicle was likely used to steal the ramp, which is 10-inches by four-feet by eight-feet and weighs about 400 pounds. Anyone with information on this theft (file number 3946) should call the investigating officer Const. Piper at 250-652-4441.
Taxis and DDs on scene
After two calls to police, a Halloween party was shut down in the 1700 block of Haldon Road.
The first time Central Saanich Police arrived after a complaint of noise, loud music, and fireworks going off. The group was cooperative and at the request of officers turned off the music and stopped the fireworks. Police maintained a perimeter of the party and disposed of open alcohol. Police were called back later in the evening after more complaints. Then party-goers left in taxis and with designated drivers.

Second chance finds cocaine
Officers stopped a car and identified those inside around John and McDonald Park roads around 11:20 p.m. on Halloween. During the stop they identified those in the vehicle. Later it was determined that one of those in the car was on several court conditions, including a curfew, from a previous robbery conviction. Sidney North Saanich RCMP officers later came across the same vehicle, with the occupant breaching his curfew. The passenger was arrested and searched; which is when officers found a large amount of cocaine, police said. Charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking are being recommended.
Right-place, right-time
Sidney North Saanich officers were driving the Pat Bay Highway en route to Victoria on an unrelated call when they saw a vehicle being driven erratically near Haliburton Road. It was shortly before 2 a.m. on Nov. 1 when they stopped the vehicle and found the driver to be impaired. The 19-year-old Saanichton woman faces charges of impaired driving, driving over .08 and received a 24-hour suspension.
Fake name gets charge
Sidney North Saanich RCMP are recommending charges of obstruction of a police officer after a teen gave them a fake name Nov. 1. Officers responded to an area near Graham and East Saanich roads at 1:25 a.m. on Nov. 1 for complaints of a disturbance.
Once there they found several youth in the area, one 18-year-old from Saanichton was located and arrested for being drunk in public. It was revealed that he’d given police a false name and was actually under conditions — including a curfew. Charges of obstruction of a police officer and breach of probation are being recommended.
