Last year 97 small crosses were placed at the memorial stone on the waterfront on Remembrance Day.

The crosses were in memory of Canadian men and women who lost their lives in Afghanistan.

Sadly, the number has now grown to 133.

“It is my intention to place 133 crosses this year at the same location,” said Kenny Podmore. “I will begin at 6 a.m. on November 11 and remain at the site until 9 a.m. I would like to invite members of the public to come and lay a cross during this time.”

Podmore will provide the small crosses to be placed in the grass near the memorial stone.

“Coffee will be provided by the Sidney Pier Hotel and Spa, who once more are supporting me and the cause,” said Podmore.

The annual ceremony at Sidney’s cenotaph will take place at 10:50 a.m. The parade will fall in at 10:15 at the Mary Winspear Centre and will march to the cenotaph in front of Sidney Town Hall.

The Central Saanich ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph at the Municipal Hall located at 1903 Mount Newton X Road.
