Premier Gordon Campbell joined Prime Minister Stephen
Harper, mayors, torchbearers and other dignitaries in officially
receiving the 2010 Olympic Torch from Athens at Victoria International Airport this morning.
The torch then began its 106-day journey in Victoria.
"The 2010 Torch Relay will bring the spirit and energy of the Olympics
to communities throughout British Columbia and across Canada," said Campbell. "When the flame arrives on Vancouver Island, it will mark the start of an historic journey that will see the torch travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic and back; travel as far north as the
Arctic Circle; and spark an event that will have the whole world focused on the people and communities of British Columbia, Canada."
