The Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre has an outdoor water feature that attracts those interested in viewing ocean creatures up close, but it may be a hazard, the town has been warned.

The Municipal Insurance Authority inspected the tide pool in early July and noted that the water feature poses a liability as a result of the ability to climb the rocks surrounding the pool.

The Municipal Insurance Authority recommended installing signs to prohibit climbing on the rocks and incorporating landscaping that directs people away from the sides of the water feature.

Proposed changes include patio stones in front of, and landscape beds around the tide pool. New landscaping also includes two benches in front of the viewing area.

The cost of the construction is estimated at $27,160, the ocean discovery centre has offered to contribute $15,800 to the project. The town’s portion will come from the 20-year parks plan budget.
