The Canadian Cancer Society Cops For Cancer Tour de Rock cycling team of 21 riders, including local rider Kyle Martell of the Sidney North Saanich RCMP, will be visiting the community of Sidney as they continue their 14-day, 1,000 km cycling tour of Vancouver Island. The Town of Sidney has a strong history of support for the Tour de Rock and will welcome the riders at Beacon Park on Thursday, October 1, at approximately 3:15 p.m.
“We will be setting up at Beacon Park and will have a barbecue by donation ready to roll by 1:30 which will run until 5,” said Julie Harman, committee chair. “There will also be headshaves and speeches by the riders, also some cheque presentations from a few local businesses and residents. We will also have official Tour de Rock t-shirts and hats for sale at a cost of $15 each with all proceeds going to the Cops for Cancer.”
The Tour will also stop at area schools and businesses throughout the day.
Tour members work together with the community to help the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon Division raise money to fund pediatric cancer research and programs.
