Discovering new gardens

It seemed like the right time to leave this house, and the trees and garden that we both enjoyed so much.

It will now be lived in by a young couple that are obviously delighted with the place, and that’s got to be a plus!

I must admit that when I look out on the deck, even though the flowers are fading fast, I get a lump in my throat, and a profound feeling of nostalgia. We had so much fun here, but life goes on, and I’ll get used to the new place, although it is bound to take a while.

Fortunately my view is into a row of lovely trees, not into the window of another apartment, although I suppose that could be interesting, especially if you have a good set of binoculars!

One of the condominium restrictions is that I must not feed the birds. I suppose that makes a certain amount of sense, since I’m situated directly over a couple of stores where shoppers could be miffed if they receive a direct hit! Anyway I’ll leave my feeders for Annie and David, since they have promised to keep them filled.

There are small birds around already, diving in and out of the Virginia creeper and over to the Hawthorne, hunting for a snack. I think I’ll start feeding them. I don’t move for another month, but it would be nice for the birds to know that, although the restaurateurs will be different, there is still a steady supply of food at this address.

Today my eldest daughter and I visited a nursery where she indulged in some tulips bulbs and a small container of the most lovely winter pansies. I very nearly did the same thing, but, just in time remembered I no longer have a deck to put them on.

I will take along a pot of snowdrops, tulips, daffodils and lilies, leaving the rest for the new folks. There are a few other potted plants that will be coming with me.

The new owners will have different ideas than Himself and I did, I’m sure, and want to make it their place, instead of it being still ours, and I wish them all sorts of success in their future in what has been a very happy home.
