Oak Bay’s Avenue Gallery Walk is celebrating half a decade.
Nine art galleries and shops featuring original work are throwing open their doors Thursday (Dec. 4) for the fifth annual event and many artists will be present during the receptions.
All participants are located within easy walking distance of each other along Oak Bay Avenue.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. between Foul Bay Road and Monterey Avenue. Aside from the galleries, shops will also be open for an evening of shopping.
Among the art retailers, Winchester Galleries will feature paintings by Adam Noonan, known for his depictions of local homes and rural island landscapes. Drawings by Fenwick Lansdowne and paintings by Iola Scott will also be exhibited.
Prestige Picture Framing will have a display created by ‘alumni’ once employed by the store, as well as a variety of other artists’ work.
Mediums include smaller works of photography and works on canvas and paper by both well-known and emerging artists.
Even the wearable arts will be represented, as Barclay’s Fine Custom Jewellers brings in guest jeweler Ross Haynes of Fanny Bay. As well, staff watch and clock maker Marek Glodek, and master gold and platinumsmith Diego Koeberle will be on hand giving tours and demonstrating their craft.
