The Sidney Concert Band will play two early concerts this season under the direction of retired Irish Guards trumpeter Alan Jacobs.

When the Olympic Torch comes to Sidney October 30, the band will play at a 12:30 p.m. ceremony in front of the Sidney Municipal Hall.

An annual tribute to the Armed Forces follows at a Sunday afternoon concert November 8 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the 676 Kittyhawk Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron Hall, 1979 Anson Drive, Sidney.

The skirl of the pipes will blend with the band when Pipe Major Steve Kelly and his 443 Squadron Pipes and Drums play with the concert band. Several charts the band will play at both concerts are arranged by the conductor Jacobs. This will be the third year the pipes have joined in the band’s Remembrance Day celebration concert. Proceeds from the admission by donation will be divided among the band, the 676 Kittyhawk air cadet squadron and the BC Aviation Museum.

Some of the pieces being considered by the conductor are: Landmark Overture, Normandy Beach, Hits Of The Blitz, World War 1 Favourites, Armed Forces Salute, The Homefront, Curtain Up, Seventy Six Trombones and The Sound Of Music.
