Sparkles parade largest ever

Peninsula Celebrations promises the largest parade ever this weekend.

There are 60 floats for the Saturday evening parade, said Kenny Podmore of Peninsula Celebrations, promising lots of lights and music.

“I think this year is going to be fantastic,” Podmore said. “It’s fantastic every year but there’s just a feeling, a buzz.”

The Sidney Sparkles parade is Nov. 29 and starts at 5 p.m. beginning at Resthaven Drive onto Beacon Avenue, east to Second Street and south to Oakville Avenue.

“There’s a lot of beautiful floats,” Podmore said. Highlights may be the new Galey Farms 100-foot float, and the return of Organized Chaos who were popular in this summer’s Sidney Days parade.

The lighted sailpast that night starts around 6 p.m.

“We’ve more than doubled the boats from last year,” Podmore said. There were 30 at last count with the potential for more. He’ll provide a commentary on each boat as it sails past the pier, and that commentary will be piped to the audience watching from shore.

Prior to the parade, the Sidney Concert Band will play Christmas favourites in front of Safeway on Beacon Avenue.

Earlier in the day, kids can enjoy breakfast with Santa at the Shoal Centre on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
