The Victoria Airport Authority and 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron joined forces to host the Chopper Challenge last weekend. The goal was to raise money and awareness for the United Way of Greater Victoria and the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign United Way.
Victoria International Airport tenants, members of the Greater Victoria Defence Team and United Way representatives were invited to flex their muscles for a good cause by putting together a team of 10 people.
Teams competed to be the fastest team to pull a CH-124 Sea King helicopter 75 feet across the tarmac.
All proceeds will go to support local programs funded by the United Way. This year the United Way’s goal is to raise $6.7 Million to support family and community well-being; to strengthen community-based services for mental health & addictions; and to help develop housing solutions for the region’s many homeless, low-income and working poor.
