hed: Oak Bay downhiller wins national championship
Kyle Marshall was the first rider to cross the finish line at Sunday's national championships in Massif du Sud, Que.
Marshall, an Oak Bay secondary school senior in September, won the junior expert division with a time comparable to second in the pro-division, just over one second back of pro-winner Hans Lambert with a course time of three minutes, seven seconds.
"The run went all right. Made one big mistake which cost me the overall win but I really can't complain," said Marshall in a press release. "The win is a big confidence booster heading into the World Cups these next couple weeks."
Marshall is staying in Quebec for a pair of Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) mountain bike world cup competitions before returning to B.C. for Whistler's Crankworx in early August.
This weekend (July 25-26) Marshall will race the UCI event at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Que., 40 kilometres from Quebec City. And on Aug. 3, Marshall will race the Bromont UCI event, just outside of Montreal.
