Oak Bay Lodge a valuable piece of elder care puzzle
In 1982 the province must have had a vision for the future when they helped to fund Oak Bay Lodge care facility.
In 2004, only two decades later, that vision became cloudy with cutbacks to funding of the facility and the transfer of the lodge to the Vancouver Island Health Authority. Now there are more cutbacks that will only contribute to its demise.
The concrete 27-year-old facility may need some updating, but it is far from being redundant. A care home like this belongs in Oak Bay and we owe it to our aging seniors to keep it going. Otherwise it will end up in the hands of a developer to become high-end condominiums.
Where is the compassion for the residents in this senseless decision?
