Police relieved after
'quiet' Halloween
Revellers in Oak Bay were relatively well-behaved this Halloween.
With just 29 calls for service coming in during the department's night shift – there were 41 last year – the night was "quieter" than Halloweens past, said acting Sgt. Chris Goudie.
Nine calls from Saturday night were for mischief, five were related to liquor and three were false alarms.
Car flipped over
on Beach Drive
Police were called when a 1990 Subaru car was found flipped on its side along Beach Drive, near Tarn Place, on Oct. 26. Officers learned the vehicle had been stolen from a Victoria residence earlier that day.
It was towed from the scene and fingerprinted. Police have no suspects in the case.
Vehicle break-ins
continue in Oak Bay
Several more vehicles were broken into last week.
Someone stole car stereo equipment, an iPod and a jacket from a vehicle in the 2900 block of Eastdowne Road. A GPS unit, a cell phone and sunglasses were stolen from a vehicle in the 2600 block of Dunlevy Street. Another vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Sandowne Road was entered illegally, but only some change was stolen.
The owners told officers their vehicles were all locked when the break-ins happened.
Vandals deface
school property
Police believe one person is responsible for vandalizing a school, a school bus and a business in Oak Bay on Oct. 27.
Officers found the phrase "No 2010" in green spray paint written on an Oak Bay High school bus, on the west block of the school and at a nearby business. There are no suspects.
