A plan is in the works aimed at convincing more drivers to get out of their cars and rely on power provided by their own two legs.
On Monday, planners and consultants working on the Capital Regional District’s Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan launched the project’s public consultation phase.
The end goal is to have a set of co-ordinated “shovel-ready” plans and shared priorities among the 13 CRD municipalities to make the region friendlier to self-propelled transportation.
Funded by a $150,000 federal gas tax grant, the project follows the CRD’s 2002 Travel Choices strategy, which set out a goal of doubling the region’s daily number of bike trips to 56,000 by 2026.
