Sewage information meetings set
A second chance has been set for the public to talk directly to politicians planning Victoria’s sewage treatment system about potential plant sites in Saanich East and North Oak Bay.
A public meeting of the Capital Regional District’s core area liquid waste management committee will be held Aug. 19 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2121 Cedar Hill X Rd., starting at 7 p.m.
The CRD is looking at three pieces of property for the plant, which will be one of three in the planned $1.2-billion regional system. A recent report favoured a CRD-owned property in the Haro Woods, at Finnerty and Arbutus roads, more than two sites on University of Victoria-owned fields.
Originally, the committee was to meet with the public on the topic just once, Aug. 12, at 8:30 a.m. at Victoria City Hall, but some committee members insisted on an evening meeting in the area where the plant will be built.
Community associations for Cadboro Bay, Gordon Head and North Henderson have also organized an information meeting on the three site options. That meeting is this Friday (Aug. 7), 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., in the MacLaurin building at UVic.
