Show and sale will spotlight the many facets of Jane Seymour's painting ability

Producing gallery quality artwork isn’t just another commercial vehicle for veteran actor Jane Seymour.

It’s a part of her life that keeps her directly connected with her life experiences, she said, almost like a photo album.

“I paint very personal pieces – it comes from (living) a very rich life,” said Seymour, who is in Victoria this week for a show and sale at Artevo Gallery on Fort Street.

Drawing and painting is something she’s long had an interest in, she said, but it took a divorce 18 years ago for her to begin pouring out her emotions on the canvas.

“It became very healing for me. All the stresses, all the pressures of life seem to disappear when I paint. Art is something that takes me to another place.”

A mother of six and still a stunning beauty at age 58, Seymour – perhaps best known for her award-winning TV work as Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and more recently as a competitor on Dancing With the Stars – has been actively engaged in painting since 1991. She has shown and sold her work for the past 14 years, but this year’s exhibits in Victoria and Calgary are her first in Canada.

Seymour paints in everything from acrylic to watercolour to pastel. She’ll have examples of each available at the Victoria show. This week’s showing will mark her first trip to the Garden City. “I’m very excited to be coming to Victoria,” she said.

The exhibition starts with a private buyer’s reception Thursday (Oct. 29). Open viewings go from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. For more information on events Seymour will attend here, go to www.artevogalleries.com.
