It’s not just squirrels that bury acorns.

This weekend, everyone is invited to plant some Garry oak acorns in the hope that one day some mighty oaks will stand in place. Oak Bay parks and recreation hosts its first tree appreciation day this Sunday (Nov. 8) at Uplands Park.

Signs will be posted for directions to the planting, which will take place from 10 a.m. to noon near the Cattle Point entrance to Uplands Park. Garry oak saplings will be planted “along with the planting of Garry oak acorns to  help continue to maintain Oak Bay’s namesake,” said Lorne Middleton, parks supervisor.

Hot refreshments will be provided at the event, but Middleton advised people to dress warmly.
