ELECTION DAY COVERAGE

We have reporters and photographers assigned to campaign offices of the four major party candidates on the South Island. Check back often after 7 p.m. for up-to-the-minute coverage of election results.

Greater Victoria is carved into three electoral districts. Below is a quick summary of the district boundaries, candidates and voting history. If you're not sure which riding you live in, visit www.elections.ca and type in your postal code.

SAANICH-GULF ISLANDS

District boundaries: This district swallows all of North and Central Saanich, while covering just the eastern third of northern Saanich. The boundary follows the Patricia Bay highway. It's southern border is more complicated, following a jagged route roughly along Tolmie and McKenzie avenues.

Voting history: Conservative Gary Lunn's been holding this seat since 1997, though his party has changed three times. Lunn started out as a Reform candidate, then followed the party's transformation into the Canadian Alliance before it switched to its current incarnation, the Conservatives. In the 2006 election, Lunn won the riding with a solid 37 per cent, followed by a near tie between the NDP and the Liberals with 26.5 and 26.1 per cent respectively.

2008 Candidates:

Liberal Briony Penn

Conservative Gary Lunn (incumbent)

NDP no candidate

Green Andrew Lewis

Canadian Action Jeremy Arney

Libertarian Dale Leier

Christian Heritage Dan Moreau

Western Block Patricia O'Brien

VICTORIA

District boundaries: While small geographically, this district covers the City of Victoria, Oak Bay and a chunk of Saanich that includes Cadboro Bay, the University of Victoria and the Saanich panhandle running north to McKenzie Avenue.

Voting history: The NDP captured the riding in the last election with 38 per cent of the vote, winning over what had been a Liberal stronghold since 1997. Runners up in the 2006 election were the Liberals, 28 per cent, and Conservatives, 25 per cent.

2008 Candidates:

Liberal Anne Park Shannon

Conservative Jack McClintock

NDP Denise Savoie (incumbent)

Green Adam Saab

Christian Heritage John Cooper

ESQUIMALT-JUAN DE FUCA

District boundaries: This district comprises the West Shore communities and all of Saanich west of the Patricia Bay Highway.

Voting history: Keith Martin's ruled this riding since 1993, first representing the Reform party, which became the Canadian Alliance. When that party became the current Conservatives, Martin crossed the floor and ran as a Liberal. In the 2006 election, the vote was spit 35 - 31 - 27 per cent for the Liberal, NDP and Conservative Party, respectively.

Liberal Keith Martin (incumbent)

Conservative Troy DeSouza

NDP Jennifer Burgis

Green Brian Gordon

Independent Philip Ney

Canadian Action Brad Rhodes
