Brotherston brothers granted bail

Ken Jr. and Greg Brotherston were scheduled for release from jail Wednesday after being granted bail.
The two are facing second degree murder charges in the death of Keith Taylor, along with their dad Ken Sr., a former Highlands councillor.
The brothers had been at the Vancouver Island Correctional Centre since May 2008. The Brotherstons’ trial starts Nov. 2.
“It’s a relief for the family and obviously it’s a positive step to allow us to prepare (a defense),” said Ken Jr.’s lawyer Richard Neary. “I agree with the decision.”
Ken Jr. and Greg have been ordered to stay on their family’s property on Munns Road in Highlands from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. During the day the brothers are only allowed to leave the property accompanied by their mother, lawyer or an adult approved by the bail supervisor, Neary said.
“They were released on fairly tight conditions,” Neary said.
The three Brotherstons are also facing three counts of assault with a weapon on Andrea Olson, Alan Arsenault and Devon Daughtry.
Ken Sr. was released on bail in July 2008.
