Victoria police executed the most successful drug raid ever in the Capital Region Tuesday morning in the West Shore and Saanich.
More than 22 kilograms of cocaine with a street value estimated at $2.25 million, plus $460,000 in cash were found in the bust.
“This is the largest seizure in our history,” said Sgt. Grant Hamilton with the Victoria police.
In Saanich, police hit the 300-block of Burnside Road West where they discovered 22 kilograms of cocaine and $250,000 in cash. They also searched a home on Regina Avenue.
On the West Shore, police raided and towed three vehicles from a home in the 3600 block of Roberlack Road in Colwood. Inside two of the vehicles they found more than one kilogram of cocaine and $150,000 cash.
Tan Envy Tanning Studios in Colwood Corners was raided and a residence in the 2600 block of Rainville Road in Langford, where officer seized two loaded handguns and $20,000 cash.
Victoria officers worked undercover for three months to gather enough evidence to launch the raid. The operation is a follow-up to a shooting in Beacon Hill Park three months ago, with suspected ties to local organized crime.
Almost 100 officers participated from VicPD’s street crime unit and strike force unit, with assistance from the Regional Crime Unit, Saanich police, Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and West Shore RCMP.
"This will put a huge dent in the people we wanted to put a dent in," said Victoria police Chief Jamie Graham.
