A cyclist was taken to hospital this weekend after being dragged for 15 feet under a pickup truck.
The 28-year-old man was cycling along the 3100 block of Jacklin Road when he tried to veer across the street around midnight. He was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old man a few blocks from Sooke Road.
“The moment before the incident happened (the cyclist) had been travelling northbound on the sidewalk,” said West Shore RCMP Const. Julie Chanin. “For whatever reason he veered across the truck’s path.”
Both were travelling in the southbound lane when the crash occurred.
West Shore RCMP, Colwood fire department and BC Ambulance responded to the scene Sept. 12 at 12:19 a.m.
The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious head and chest injuries that are considered life threatening.
“He didn’t appear to be wearing a helmet,” Chanin said, noting he was also wearing dark clothes. It’s unclear if the bike had lights.
“(The driver) remained at the scene and immediately went to the cyclist and attended to him,” she said.
An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing. No charges are being considered at this time.
Anyone with information on this collision is asked to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
