Get ready to ring in the summer season, Langford style.

The 8th annual Langford Summer Festival is in full-swing this weekend with celebrations geared toward the whole family.

“It’s a whole pile of fun and a great way to get to know your neighbours and show your community spirit,” said organizer and Langford councillor Matt Sahlstrom.

The two-day festival starts with a pancake breakfast at City Centre Park from 7 to 9 a.m. each day.

On Saturday the breakfast is hosted by the WestShore Lion’s Club and by the West Shore RCMP detachment on Sunday. The cost is $5 and all proceeds are donated to charity.

Festival cheer will spread throughout downtown Langford, July 11, with the annual festival parade. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. from City Centre Park and will travel up Jacklin Road to Goldstream Avenue and then continue on down Veteran's Memorial Parkway to the legion on Station Avenue.

“It’ll be a great parade with lots of floats and cars,” Sahlstrom said.

West Shore youngsters can spend the weekend at the Kids Fest booth with arts and crafts, face painting and other activities.

Kiddy rides include a train and a super slide, Sahlstrom said.

Youth under 16 are also encouraged to partake in the fishing derby at Glen, Florence and Langford lakes. The derby runs Saturday and Sunday.

Artists, food vendors, musicians and a beer garden will also be set up at City Centre Park.

This is the first time the festival has been held at City Centre Park.

“The festival grows every year and we just needed more space,” Sahlstrom said. “As long as people keep coming we’ll keep hosting it.”
