No limo for big, tough Clint

Naomi Watts next stars in “My Name Is Jody Williams.”

This based on a true story about a teacher working for an employment agency who leaves her life in Washington to pursue a career in global activism. She was later honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize for leading a campaign to eradicate land mines. She also was the lady who called President Bill Clinton “a weenie” for not signing the land-mine ban.

How’s this for a cast? Michael Douglas, Mary-Louise Parker, Susan Sarandon and Danny DeVito! They all come together in a film titled “Solitary,” about a former auto-dealership owner (Michael D.) whose marriage and career have collapsed because of his less-than-ethical behaviour. Parker plays his high-powered society girlfriend. In private life, Michael is anything but a “play arounder.” He is happily settled in with Catherine and the kiddies.

Aside to Roy B. of Baton Rouge, La. Yes, Alexa Vega is still very much around, although she is no longer a “little girl.” She is 19 (can you believe it?!) and recently made a pilot for TV. We’ll let you know more when we do. And yes, she does have a younger sister, Makenzie, also an actress.

Adrien Brody’s next is “The Courier,” an action film about a daredevil courier trying to deliver a briefcase to an underworld figure who can’t be found. Said to be full of twists and turns and thrills and spills, it shoots come January in Las Vegas and Louisiana.

Brody is a busy man, having just completed “The Darjeeling Limited,” and after “The Courier” he goes into “The Brothers Bloom.” In person he’s a hoot – always pulling off some kind of fun stunt.

Town’s still talking about the premiere of “Changeling,” held at the Motion Picture Academy. First because Angelina Jolie didn’t show up, and secondly, because unlike most stars who arrive in limos or chauffeur-driven cars, Clint Eastwood drove himself in his SUV right up to the red carpet. The parking boys took it, and off Clint went to view his work, and accept the kudos.

Also, the town’s still having at it about who is the biggest male star on the screen today. Some say Tom Cruise; others insist it’s Leo DiCaprio; still others insist it’s George Clooney, and even more go for Tom Hanks.

Me? I say “chacun a son gout” (translated – each to his own taste). Personally, I will vote for “Gorgeous” George.

He may not be for everybody, but he is for me.

BITS ‘N’ PIECES: Ashley Olsen appearing on “The Late Show” in a little nothing black dress concealing only her private parts, and long long, straight straight blond hair.

... Those tiny little white fluffy doggies carried around by so many in Beverly Hills, including Elizabeth Taylor, are definitely “out,” and tiny little Chihuahuas are in since the showing of “Beverly Hills Chihuahua.” ... Wanna bet there will be some kind of film made about Sarah Palin with Tina Fey playing Mme. Palin. ... Statistics show the most overused line of dialogue in films is “Let’s get out of here.” AND so I shall. For this week.
