Mt. Cain will open its gates Dec. 5, the earliest opening ever, thanks to heavy snowfall on the mountain and the time to book a spot in the new group hostel is now.
As of Nov. 20, Mt. Cain has more than 200-centimetre mid-mountain base and more snow is expected to fall during the week.
“It was snowing very heavily and over 100 cm has fallen during the past two days alone and it doesn’t seem to be letting up,” said Mt. Cain spokesperson Na’im Bossi. “Volunteers are working very hard to keep up with the incredible amount of snowfall.”
Groups can start making reservations for the new group hostel as of Nov. 26 to allow them one full week to organize their trip to the ski hill. Both groups and individuals can book starting Dec. 3.
The hostel, which will be open for business as of Dec. 18, can house up to 30 people, has two bathrooms and a coin-operated shower. The hostel also “features a large common area and kitchen on the top floor with amazing views,” says Bossi.
For pricing and booking details visit the Mt. Cain website at www.mountcain.com.
Gift certificates for the rental shop and day passes are now available at Timberland Sports in Port McNeill; Jim’s Hardy Sports in Port Hardy and the post office in Sointula. Pricing packages are available where certificates are sold.
The mountain will be open for business until Apr. 4 on Mondays and weekends.
