Stock cars set final rain make-up dates

Gazette staff

The Tri-Port Motor Sports Club built two rain-out days into its season schedule, and they won’t be nearly enough to fill out a full season.

Heavy rain last weekend, on what was supposed to be the season finale, knocked out race events scheduled for both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at Tri-Port Speedway, bringing to five the number of races washed away this season.

The club, which has held just five full race events and another which was cut short due to rain, will try again this Saturday at 3 p.m. This will be the first of two rain make-up dates on the schedule. Another race night will follow Saturday, Oct. 18.

All races are dependent upon the weather.

Curling set to start

Port Alice Curling Club kicks off the North Island’s 2008-09 season tonight with its first Junior curling session, from 7-9 p.m.

The official league seasons at Port Alice and Fort Rupert Curling Club in Port Hardy begin next week. Broughton Curling Club in Port McNeill will host a free clinic Oct. 14-16.
