Dear editor,
On Monday I had the great honour to participate in the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wave goodbye to Coca-Cola.
Since soft drinks were recently banned from our school’s vending machines and cafeteria due to their contribution to children’s general poor diet and ill health, Coca-Cola decided to have a grand farewell celebration. What a great example of good corporate citizenship!
All the school children were lined up along McPhee Avenue, all dressed in the red and white Coca-Cola colours, and along came two huge Coca-Cola trucks complete with in-your-face blaring music and Coca-Cola dancers.
Many of the children received Coca-Cola flags to wave farewell. Behind the Coca-Cola trucks ran some guy with a burning stick. (Some kind of ceremonial cleansing I guess).
So here’s to Coca-Cola — great taste but zero nutritional value.
I was, however, very sad to have missed The Royal Bank Give the Children Pretend Credit Cards, Make Them Think They’re Rich, Brand Them While They’re Young celebration at Lewis Park later that same day.
I’m sure the cards were accompanied by a great lesson plan on compounding interest.
