We can make a difference

Dear editor,

The city can get excited about one seat on council if they believe that one voice can make a difference.

There have been letters to your paper saying only one council candidate has taken a stand. To be perfectly clear, here’s mine.

We can do better. Together we can make a difference. Speak out against injustice, demand better service and be sure that our voices are heard.

We can lower our industrial tax rate to invite targeted environmental, high-tech and value-added manufacturing and processing jobs to our city. Work with (not against) investors and developers at all levels to bring, an increased tax base and improved infrastructure to our Valley.

We can be a part of the community’s protocol on racism and we can get involved to address the needs of our city’s most vulnerable without enabling them with free crack pipes.

Yes, we can work toward a single Valley government, encourage tourism and build on our existing social programs and agricultural base.

This is what I stand for; I believe that together with vision, passion and political will, we can do and be more as a city.

Get excited, get involved and together. Let’s get it done. John Van Egmond,

Courtenay
