Take questions into context
Published: September 25, 2008 6:00 PMDear editor,
I watched, online, with interest the school board meeting of Sept. 23.
I do not intend to comment on the meeting per se but I instead feel compelled to comment on an exchange that occurred towards the end of the meeting between two members of the audience.
Marg Brimacombe, in the context of an apparent question, made public statements that cast into question the ethics and integrity of the declared candidate for school trustee in Comox, Fran Goldberg.
I am Fran’s campaign manager and my partner is Susan Barr, Area C school trustee. It is important that in judging what I say the public has a clear context within which they can judge those statements.
Ms. Brimacombe made the assertion that Fran had not made a full disclosure of her connections to the group of concerned citizens who successfully took the present school board to court over their flawed Cape Lazo school closure process.
As a resident of Comox and parent of two students directly affected by the school board’s flawed process, I’m very familiar with the consequences of this board’s decisions.
To be absolutely clear, Fran has never hidden her connection to the legal challenge that successfully held this board to a standard of procedural fairness the judge ruled was not evident in the first closure process.
As a matter of fact, Fran’s commitment to the students of the Comox Valley is why I and many other residents of Comox are supporting her campaign to bring some common sense back to the board. Fran is a person with a strong ethical base and a clear sense of personal integrity.
As Fran’s press release stated, she has involved herself at every opportunity to provide input throughout the long process of reconfiguration and school closures. Her commitment to students and staff is self-evident to anyone who meets and speaks with her.
As a matter of fact, Fran offered last night to meet with Ms. Brimacombe and clarify any misperceptions she had formed. Ms. Brimacombe refused to do that. Doug Barr,
Comox
