ShareCancer walk was ‘politicized’

It is unfortunate that in your Sept. 10 article, Election Campaign Underway, you included a picture of John Duncan and Holly Trainor in the Winners Walk of Hope.
The article appears to infer that the walk for ovarian cancer was part of John’s election campaign. In fact, it was an event in which John has annually participated and it was planned well before the election was called. It coincidentally occurred on the day the election was called.
The kickoff to the elect John Duncan campaign was a press conference at the Courtenay office the following day.
I know personally that John Duncan is distressed that the Winners Walk of Hope has been inadvertently politicized in this way. It concerns him that the article has served to distract from the important purpose of the walk and the efforts of the many volunteers.
