Our lacrosse team wasn't dirty!

Dear editor,
Re: Peewee B Wild bag bronze at B.C. boxla finals (Record, Aug. 1).
After reading this article and being one of the coaches for this Victoria/Esquimalt team, I take great displeasure in the article accusing our team for being dirty!
"The Wild's top scorers were being slashed, butt-ended and interfered with, so Hutchings stepped up from defence and potted three goals in the third. Molander and Brett chipped in one each and the Wild were up 8-7. Comox took a penalty late in the third and V-E capitalized, then with 45 seconds left, Victoria scored again and won 9-8. Molander was game MVP."
Butt-ending? I have the scoresheet and don't see such a call on the sheet at all? It is one thing to give your opinion on something, which should be stated as an opinion.
But to say that one team was dirty without the penalty calls of the game to back it up is not right! In this hard-hitting back-and-forth battle, both teams worked hard for the win and deserved to win (this time it was our turn).
One last thing, as one of the coaches for the Vic/Esq Eagles, I know for a fact we don't teach our kids any dirty play at all and do not condone that type a play at all!
Frank Wendt,
Victoria
