Whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow in early February, the first true sign of spring on Vancouver Island is Comox Valley Seedy Saturday, to be held on Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Florence Filberg Centre in downtown Courtenay.

Comox Valley Seedy Saturday includes the Community Seed Exchange, Horticulture Trade Fair, several workshops and presentations, and the Seedy Café. The event is organized by Comox Valley Growers and Seed Savers (CVGSS), a non-profit society dedicated to conserving and preserving local plant diversity by encouraging and supporting public participation in growing heritage and non-hybrid food crops and other plants.

The theme for the 2010 Comox Valley Seedy Saturday is Eat From Your Back Yard.

Advance tickets will be available for the first time this year. Comox Valley Seedy Saturday is a very popular event, so this year, to avoid slow lineups to pay at the door, you can buy advance tickets, only $6. The first opportunity to buy advance tickets will be Saturday, Feb. 6 at the CVGSS table at the World Community Film Fest bazaar in the upstairs Filberg Centre.

After that, advance tickets will be available at Blue Heron Books in Comox, Laughing Oyster Book Shop in Courtenay, Seeds Market in Cumberland, and Black Creek Farm and Feed (exact cash only at these locations).

For more information on Seedy Saturday, contact Krista at 250-338-9962 or Anne at 250-897-1930.
