Your financial future depends on you

It is surprising how little time people spend thinking about and planning for their financial future.
At the risk of sounding trite, I would say that there are those who spend more time planning their vacations than they do planning their retirement.
That is a concern. With the uncertainty of future government pension availability, and the increasing tax burden on the individual, astute financial management is critical to many people’s quality of life down the road.
A good financial adviser can help make the difference. Financial advisers offer a variety of services and professional advice ranging from portfolio management to tax reduction strategies and estate planning.
Whatever your financial situation or your level of investment experience, a good financial adviser will work with you to assess your personal objectives and recommend a strategy that is right for you. This is usually done through a series of meetings and a thorough review of your assets, short and long-term financial goals and personal factors such as age and risk tolerance.
I have found that what prevents many people from taking control of their financial destiny is skepticism and fear. A good financial adviser will help to dispel those fears.
As a client, you should be encouraged to ask questions and have an understanding of your investment plan. If you sense that your financial adviser is not willing to spend the time you like, or if you just do not feel comfortable with his or her approach, you should continue to search for a professional that meets your needs.
