How to profit in turbulent times

So much of what we read in the news these days suggests that economic crisis is imminent, especially if we believe our fate is determined by the international market.

But do we have to fall prey to this litany of doom and gloom? Is the success of our business determined by global economic trends?

Not according to Shane Gibson, president of Knowledge Brokers International.

“Succeeding in turbulent economic times is about proactively taking control of your own personal economy,” says Gibson. “Fortunes have been made during times of change and economic downturn.”

Gibson should know. As a Vancouver-based international speaker, author and global entrepreneur, Gibson has addressed several thousand people over the past three years on stages in North America, Southern Africa and South America.

He’s been published in numerous business and ethnic magazines on the topics of leadership, marketing, sales, strategic communications and assessing business opportunities. He’s also the author of Closing Bigger: The Field Guide to Closing Bigger Deals.

Gibson believes that any size business can succeed during economic low cycles by working with other businesses in their local community, leveraging each other’s talents, and learning to be proactive in their responses to economic fluctuations. Utilizing the Internet and social networking tools can help businesses of any size compete with the big boys.

“It’s not what happens that defines an event; it’s how we respond to it that matters.”

Gibson will share his strategies for success in any economic climate on Oct. 7. Hosted by the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Community Futures Strathcona, this half-day session starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Best Western Westerly Hotel.

Cost of the session is $63 (GST included).
