Comox roundabout almost complete
Published: October 02, 2008 6:00 PMThe Town of Comox roundabout upgrading at the intersection of Pritchard Road and Knight Road is nearing completion, according to project engineers McElhanney Consulting Services.
Project engineer Ian Whitehead reports paving is completed and sidewalks and other finishing touches are well underway.
The project will form the gateway to the Comox Valley from the Comox Valley Airport, and Whitehead indicates the town’s parks department has plans for the planting of an attractive display of trees and shrubs in the large centre island of the roundabout.
Mayor Jim Brass stated that “the project will provide for a much safer passage through this intersection, as it currently has roads entering at awkward angles.”
In addition to the current road works, the town has contracted to install sanitary sewers within the area, making connection to the regional waste treatment facility much more economical in future.
The project was designed by staff at McElhanney’s local office last year, after the town received confirmation of federal and provincial grant monies. The total project value is to be significantly less than originally budgeted, due to design modifications agreed to with the town.
The project is expected to be open to the public by Oct. 15, McElhanney said.
