Let’s turn challenge into opportunity

Over the past number of months there has been debate in our community over the following topics: CRTV, our hospital, and the Events Centre.

It is time for our community to become proactive and turn the loss of CRTV into a “win-win” situation.

If the CRTV sale is finalized and members are not to receive the payout from its sale then, could they dictate how the funds are to be distributed?

This sale may potentially provide the community of Campbell River with $46 million to invest in its future.

The CRTV members could be polled via survey on how they would like to see the assets divided.

For example I would be pleased to see the assets divided in the following manner:

n Give 1/3 to the Hospital Foundation thus investing in the future of our hospital.

n Give 1/3 towards the Events Centre thus investing in our economy and recreation.

n Create a CRTV Community Legacy Fund with the remaining 1/3. This fund would provide grants just from the interest generated thus creating an ongoing legacy for years to come. Community groups, sport groups, cultural events, etc could apply annually for these grants.

The loss of CRTV can be turned into a great opportunity for the people of Campbell River if we can take positive steps in moving forward.
