Water restrictions may have been eased but the dry weather is still a concern for the City of Campbell River, resulting in an open burning band effective at 12:00 today and until further notice.

All open burning, including recreational fires (beach fires), are banned within the City of Campbell River, the city announced Friday morning.

This ban coincides with the Provincial Campfire ban for areas outside of organized areas with burning bylaws.

The public is reminded that with the extreme fire hazard due to hot and dry weather, extra care should be taken when using smoking materials in areas of grass, brush and forest, in an effort to prevent wildfires.
