Serious accidents close highway

Sayward RCMP were investigating a possible fatal accident Thursday morning on the Island Highway, 13 kilometres north of the Sayward Junction.

Details were sketchy at press time, but it appears a vehicle collided with a rock wall. It is believed one person was killed while another was seriously injured.

Rescuers were attempting to airlift the injured person to hospital, but were hampered by heavy rain and wind.

The accident resulted in highway being closed in both directions.

The Island Highway was also closed in Campbell River on Wednesday night following a serious accident near Freddie’s Pub.
