Mark Remembrance Day with song

Voices in Remembrance – Songs and Readings is a concert assembled specially for the day by Island Voices Chamber Choir. The high-quality music will be varied, and interspersed with readings from distinguished community members.
The Campbell River performance will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 34 S. Alder, Campbell River at 7 p.m, Wednesday the Nov. 11. Admission is by donation, with partial proceeds going to the Royal Canadian Legion. That afternoon at 2 p.m. the concert will be presented for the Comox Valley’s benefit at Christ the King church.
Island Voices Chamber Choir has been performing together since 1997 and draws singers of rich and diverse musical backgrounds from Denman and Quadra Islands, as well as Campbell River and the Comox Valley. They are a tight and talented ensemble, singing most pieces a cappella (without accompanying instruments).
The dozen or so musical pieces will vary from the traditional ecclesiastic Laudate Dominum to the rich and inspiring Kantakion by Vancouver composer and cathedral musician Rupert Lang, to a gospel-influenced arrangement of Bridge Over Troubled Water. The roster of readers features mayor Charlie Cornfield, whose grandfather served overseas during WW1 and whose father built and manned the gun battery in Johnstone Strait during WW2.
